'Looks Can Kill' by Cliff McGoon
"Grannies’ Deadly Reunion was inspired by reuniting with kids—now
grandmothers—after 45 years. It was a lark and since I knew none of the rules of
writing fiction, it was pretty easy. I immersed myself in memories of Des Plaines in
the ‘50s then simply sat down enjoyed the writing process. My original idea was to
have these three grannies trip over dead bodies and solve murders in host of
different settings. I had delusions of a TV series involving these ladies. That held
true in the second book.”
"Grannies Investigate the Tunnel of Death" is set on a small island across the
bay from San Francisco. The cousin of one of the grannies is involved in the
murder of a gypsy woman, who happened to be his conniving wife. This character
is based on a real-life person--a man manipulated and conned out of a fortune.
“The book explores some of the local gypsy culture. A sub-plot involves the
proposed tunneling through some of the most expensive real estate on the planet—
Belvedere Island—and this provides a host of suspects.
